| Leaping upward through raging waterfalls, the unrelenting salmon, draws near the end of its epic journey – a return to the salmon's natal stream. Ancient symbols of prosperity, abundance and determination, Costal Native Americans relied on the salmon for their primary sustenance, thus salmon figure prominently in their culture's art and iconography. Scarred and tattered from jagged rocks and the teeth of predators, the salmon pushes on to enact the final chapter of its life. The salmon finds a mate, spawns and dies, leaving eggs soon to emerge as young fry to replay the cycle that has endured a thousand times before it. This salmon graphite sculpture from A S Batle studio is a wonderful representation of the salmon's qualities. |
