Through amazing determination, Bob caught up with me in Cape Town the morning after my arrival. His own odyssey included flights from Portland to Salt Lake City, then Denver, then a purchased ticket to Atlanta, followed by a sprint of nearly a kilometer through the airport to get the last seat on a flight to Johannesburg. Next came a terrible taxi trip in that city, a night in the dorm at a youth hostel, and lost luggage. Together again, Bob could quit worrying about me, catch his breath, and he went surfing within hours of landing in Cape Town. He had to rent a wetsuit and leash, buy wax and such because he has nothing other than a few clothes that were stuffed into his day pack. However, his new, Spider surfboard was waiting for him at Lisa’s It was custom built in Durban and shipped to Lisa’s home a week or so ago. Lisa continues to stay on top of the airlines to get our bags to us.
