After a calm, relaxing morning at the hotel (I’d opted to skip my re-scheduled morning flight and wait for Bob who I’d recently learned was supposed to arrive in Johannesburg that evening), I made my way to the airport. After spending some time tracking my luggage, to no avail, I had a harrowing time trying to connect with Bob, whose flight was an hour late. We missed each other by about 5 minutes. I decided I was going to Cape Town that night, no matter what. I knew Bob’s plane was on the ground in Johannesburg when it came time for me to run to the domestic terminal to board my plane. I suspected Bob didn’t know he could just barely make his connection to Cape Town with me, and was trying to find HIS lost baggage.

 

On my flight to Cape Town one of my seat-mates was a charming young woman named Jenn. She had just quit her burgeoning career as an art director for an ad agency because she’d concluded work and making lots of money weren’t what life was about. She was on her way to Cape Town to say goodbye to friends before heading off to a small island in Indonesia where she would teach English and explore the world. Obviously we had lots in common and the two-hour flight raced by. Again, email addresses were exchanged and we promised to check out each other’s websites to see how life’s journeys were progressing.

 

Finally, I’ve made it to Cape Town, though my luggage has yet to make its way here. Fortunately Lisa, the woman who sold us our vehicle, has been most gracious. She picked me up at the airport and we were good friends before we even got “home”. She is hosting us at her lovely residence in Table View (a suburb in Cape Town) for a few days.
