Checked the surf early but held off until nearly noon before going surfing. It was quite junky but I caught a few waves before getting too tired and seasick. After resting I took the boogie board out while Bob used my longboard to catch a few of the outside waves. It has been very windy since the middle of last night and doesn’t seem to be letting up. In the afternoon we walked the many trails through pastures and near Xhosa homes. In the evening we were entertained by local girls doing traditional dance. They ranged in ages 8 to 16, I’d guess. The older ones didn’t seem to put much heart or effort into it, it seemed more like work or giving a performance. We were hoping for something with a bit more soul and emotion and tradition behind it. It was traditional in the sense that they wore only a loincloth. The bare breasts and feet probably brought every man’s National Geographic dream to life. Still, it is important that there is an attempt to keep the cultural alive with these new generations.
