Surfed a beachbreak in Cape town the first morning I got here. It was clean and sunny and offshore and looked really fun. I had a 6’4 that I had ordered custom from here, but I had no leash or wax or, most importantly, no wetsuit (and CT is pretty infamous for really cold water). So I hinted around to some surfers in the carpark to try to borrow a wetsuit but no offers. I didn’t want to waste a bunch of time finding a shop and renting because I knew the offshore wind wasn’t going to last all day. Finally I went to a shop and rented a suit and when I got back to the beach it was onshore and pretty crappy. It was a 4/3 with no hood and no booties. The water was very comfortable, I guess around 62. Stayed out for 1 hour and never got numb toes or even a little bit cold. The waves sucked but the board felt pretty good from what I could tell and it was my first surf in the Atlantic Ocean so there was novelty value. Also after 3 days and nights of flying on planes and sleeping in airports it felt great to get out and get wet. The next day (yesterday) was smaller but still clean enough but we had lots to do so I opted to give it a pass. Last night a storm came in with rain and bad wind and again we have lots to do so i haven’t even looked at the ocean but I heard it’s worse than yesterday.
