Walked to the beach early but it isn’t looking good for surf. I took a Yoga class led by one of the Bomvu owners, Monique. We had a late brunch and are really starting to enjoy the communal kitchen and others staying at Bomvu. After a bit of discussion we decided to stay one more night so we could celebrate the full moon ceremony hosted at Bomvu. I clearly remember the first day we arrived at Bomvu and someone asked how long we were staying. Probably just one night was my reply and the fellow said, it will be more. Many come for just a day or two and some stay for a year In the afternoon we rented kayaks, drove to the Umtata river and had a great outing with the waves from the ocean making the launch exciting. After a quick look around the island we headed upstream, inspected the mangrove swamps, then headed back before it rained. We splurged and bought the chicken dinner from the Bomvu kitchen. It sprinkled a little, threatening to spoil the party. They moved the tribal dancing inside and we also were privileged to participate in a special blessing of Bomvu by the local Shaman, which Bomvu has been hoping to get for several years. The ceremony was special but I really enjoyed the drumming and dancing of the Big Mamas, made up of a dozen alpha women from the community. The moon broke through the clouds in time for some a drumming circle but after an hour or so the DJ showed up and the disco music started. The music just wasnëª inspiring and it was too loud. With tissue stuffed in our ears we danced for an hour or so but it just wasnëª quite like the magical night on Sunday when Bob was dancing in great form. He was jumping and gyrating like only he can and the local men were so impressed that they joined him and tried to imitate him. Most of us women had to clear the floor on Sunday night for Bob and the black men to strut their stuff but it was a brilliant, high energy evening for everyone. Several of he local men who had encouraged us to stay another night so Bob could dance with them again were quite disappointed that Bob just couldnëª get into the rhythm of the DJ music, but few people were able to. We quit the dance floor after midnight and walked up on the grassy hill beyond Bomvu so we could enjoy the bright moon dancing on the waves alongside dolphin and perhaps a mermaid or two.
